For the first time, women constables of the Chandigarh Police will patrol the city on Honda Activa scooters to keep a check on the rising crime. The police have purchased 35 Activa scooters for the purpose.The scooters will be allotted to all police stations for patrol duty. “Patrolling by women constables will help curb incidents such as snatching and eve-teasing,” said a police official. Police sources said the Activa scooters would soon be used by women constables to attend to crime spots in their area.At present, Pulsar and Enfield motorcycles are used for patrolling by the Chandigarh Police. The sources said the scooters would carry stickers of the Chandigarh Police so that residents could easily identify these. “The moment the scooters get ready with the stickers of the UT police, we will introduce these in the city,” said a police official. Chandigarh has also purchased Mahindra Bolero Plus vehicles for the SHOs. Earlier, the Police Department had purchased Eritga vehicles for the SHOs. However, space constraint was an issue.
