Recently, half a million people on Instagram liked a picture of reality TV star Khole Kardashian she posted wearing a waist trainer underneath her workout clothes. Waist trainers are the new modern day corsets made of latex which clasps the abdominal region of the body with straps.

However, for people looking to mimic this trend to get a slimmer physique, experts warn it has a harmful side effect. Wearing the waist trainer during work outs can hinder your ability to “exercise at a high intensity” and could damage you ribs, Dr Caroline Apovian, director of the Centre for Nutrition and Weight Management at Boston Medical Centre, told The Daily Beast.

Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Amber Rose, Farrah Abraham, Lindsay Lohan have shared their own pictures wearing a waist trainer to get the perfect hour-glass figure. They have even directed they social media followes to online stores like WhatsAWaist.com, which says “women who wear their shaping garment several hours a day can achieve permanent waist-reduction.”
