The first edition of ‘Goa Going Pink 2016′, a women’s only run, was today held here, in which 1,200 women took part.

The event was organised by two local organisations — Miracle Munj and Vasco Sports Club– under the aegis of the United Sisters’ Foundation. Goa Governor Mridula Sinha flagged off the run, where Superintendent of Police Priyanka Kashyap, Executive Director of Dempo Industries Pallavi Dempo and supermodel Milind Soman were also present.

Soman is also founder of Pinkathon, an initiative creating awareness about the healthy lifestyle for women. The event which was held at Campal Ground here had more than 1,200 women participants. “The objective of the event was to encourage women’s health and fitness. It also aims to raise awareness about breast cancer, its causes and prevention,” Soman told reporters.

He said through this event, the intention is to promote running or any form of physical activity on a regular basis amongst women as they need to start looking after themselves and focus on their health.
