The Andaman and Nicobar Police Department had come through its promise of making a unit particularly which aims to women safety/security. The first Pink Police Patrol, a unique initiative inculcates positive relationship between the police and the society at large was flagged off on Friday at Port Blair, Andaman.
The Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Prof. Jagdish Mukhi flagged off first Pink Police Patrol which focuses on ensuring the safety and security of women on the Islands.
The Pink Patrol vehicle will be fully operated by female staff and is totally equipped with communication devices. Its main aim is to provide additional assistance to women and children and to observe activities such as eve teasing.
Right now the Andaman and Nicobar Police have only one vehicle but they are planning to release more in future. Pink Police Patrol, an initiative of Andaman and Nicobar Police aims to sensitize the general public about women and children’s rights and issues related to Islands safety. This initiative will enable women of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to take active functioning in ensuring their own safety with the safety of their community.
Pink Patrol will keenly participate in specific cases which include missing, runaway or stray children and women with the reason of tracing them. For this, Pink Patrol will communicate with District/CAW Cell for rehabilitating them through the different organization. They will likewise visit casualties of wrongdoing against ladies, for aid & assistance.
