India is celebrating its 75th year of Independence, and the theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘Nation First, Always First’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of Delhi’s Red Fort on Sunday.
Special invitations have been sent to all the sportspersons who won medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games to attend the ceremony.
Since the celebrations are taking take place amid the pandemic, the entry of people to the event has been restricted further and children will not be presenting any kind of cultural performance.
India has won a total of seven medals, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, in the Olympic Games 2020. The Indian players created history on several occasions during the games. Neeraj Chopra won the first track and field gold medal for the country in the javelin throw, while the Indian men’s hockey team won a medal after 41 years.
Several people attend the flag hoisting ceremony and take part in the celebrations at the Red Fort where the PM unfurls the Tricolour. This year’s programme will include a group of NCC cadets. According to reports, the Independence day theme, ‘Nation First, Always First’, will reflect on all aspects of the programme — from paintings to flower arrangements.
