Here are some key beauty trends that were spotted at the Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2017
The last stop for the fashion weeks was the beautiful Paris and the shows gave much beauty inspiration for the upcoming spring 2017. From playing up the pout to braiding the locks and experimenting with bright eye colours — there was much visual drama.
Goth route
While Spring is generally about bright shades like coral pink and tangerine, Acne took a darker route with their models flaunting Goth-inspired pouts. They mixed dark grey with purpleish berry tones to create a statement lip. Make-up expert, Vipul Bhagat says, “People are willing to try different things. Like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan sported a purple mouth at Cannes but it didn’t take off. Bored of the same colours, women are willing to experiment a little but it may not be that practical to wear regularly.”
Colour me bright
The Maison Margiela show saw a lot of experimentation in terms of eye colour. Pastel shaded eyebrows and brightly coloured lids in summery yellows, pink and blues added a riot of colour. Vipul warns however that bright colours don’t work with Indian skin tones. “These are better suited for pale skin tones. Indian girls prefer sticking to kajal. Such bright make-up takes away from the clothes. a touch of bright liner is okay, make sure its wearable,” he adds.
Sleek and neat
Side-parted hair neatly tied back in a low pony was the signature look at the Dries Van Noten show. It was a fuss-free, minimal look. Mallika Bhat, celebrity make-up expert says, “I personally think the sleek ponytail has been around too long and would like to see more voluminous and textured hair for next Spring. I love the brows. Bold and strong. Something that will rock summer 2017.”
Bang theory
Rochas show saw models flaunting short, wispy bangs — an ode to the 40s. Bangs have been a summer staple, but Vipul Bhagat is not in favour of them. “Bangs stay forever — till you grow out your hair. That’s why we use fake bangs for fashion shows. It can be rather restricting to your look and no one wants to wait six months for them to grow out.”
Glitter mania
Glitter seems to be a huge trend as seen on shimmery lips and even eyes. But Yves Saint Laurent tossed things up a bit by sending a model with a glitter nipple. Crystal stick-ons adorned one woman’s chest in a heart shape. Says Mallika, “I’d rather just see it on eyes and lips. Great for runway but absolutely bizarre off the ramp.”
Glowy skin
Dewy contoured skin was seen at Balmain and Lemaire too achieved a glowing skin effect, which almost looked make-up free. “The no-foundation look is much in demand. One should use a cream based blush on top of a liquid foundation and then use some mineraliser on the T-zone, neck and collar bones for that dewy feel. It lasts all day,” says Vipul.
Braids galore
At Christian Dior, it was the braided bun look that caught everyone’s eye. Models flaunted three french braids from the scalp upwards to the tips that was finished off in a top knot —similar to a ballerina bun but with a twist. “Braids are a very big trend and are going to be around for a while,” says Mallika.
