The 3rd of December is observed annually as the International Day of Disabled Persons, also called the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD).

The objective of the day is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, as stated by WHO.

The day also aims to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

The global observance of International Day of Persons with Disabilities started in the year 1992 after it was proclaimed by United Nations Assembly resolution 47/3.

This year’s theme is: “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”.

“On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I would like to appreciate the stellar achievements and contributions of persons with disabilities to India’s progress. Their life journeys, their courage, and determination are very motivating,” said Mr. Narendera Modi, Prime minister of India.
