Ultherapy, a non-invasive treatment promises to tone and lift facial skin, providing a safer option to injectables
In an attempt to achieve smoother, youthful looking skin, women are trying all sorts of treatments. However, while Botox and fillers will always be in demand, non-invasive procedures are also becoming popular. Ultherapy is one such that helps lift skin on the neck, chin and eyebrows. With virtually no downtime, this treatment which works on ultrasound technology seems like a safe option.
Quick and convenient
Dr K E Mukadam, dermatologist and aesthetic laser surgeon, Laser Sure says Ultherapy is the only FDA-approved non-invasive treatment used to lift the skin on the chin, neck as well as brow. “It is convenient as it takes only one hour for a procedure and generally just one treatment session is required. It is the only procedure that uses ultrasound imaging, which lets us to view the layers of the tissue that is targeted during the treatment. It also ensures that the energy is deposited exactly where it is most effective. During Ultherapy procedure the ultrasound energy is deposited below the surface as well as in the connective tissue layers of the skin of the face. The deep ultrasound treatment of the neck excess and early jowls, helps in tightening the facial connective tissue resulting in the enhancement of contours of the neck and jawline. The treatment of the wrinkled upper face gives excellent results, by improving the upper lids, raising the brow as well as opening the eye,” says Dr Mukadam.
Start early for better results
Dr Soma Sarkar, cosmetic dermatologist, About Face explains the difference between Botox and Ultherapy. “Botox works on relaxing the working lines by acting on muscles whereas Ultherapy works at all the levels of skin including the sheath covering the muscles and hence helps to produce new collagen and lifting of the skin. So one cannot really compare the treatments, but yes if the patient is scared of injectables then can definitely go for Ultherapy. This treatment is recommended for people who are 30-plus. Treating the area early will ensure better and long lasting results.” She adds, “The peak results are seen only after three months, but the initial changes starts at the end of one month.”
Ideal for sagging skin
Ultherapy makes use of focused ultrasound in order to stimulate the collagen deep into the skin without any downtime says Dr Shefali Trasi Nerurkar, MD Skin, consultant dermatologist, Dr Trasi’s Clinic & La Piel. “Those who have sagging skin due to ageing, double chin, lowered eyebrow, people who have mild to moderate wrinkles could benefit from this treatment. As we age, collagen fibres break and lose their elasticity. There are no notable side effects as such but there might be some redness and swelling which disappears soon. It can be done either on the entire face or specific areas. A full face costs approximately `200,000 and lower face and neck around `140000. One can also get just a brow lift done.”
