Here’s a round-up of the top trends sported by the stars on the red carpet
The recently held Golden Globes 2016 saw a bevy of beauties dressed in their finest. The stunning ensembles and accessories apart, each of them went for gorgeous hair and make-up looks that added an elegant touch. From lustrous red lips to well-defined brows and stylish chignons, here are some key trends from the ceremony that one can make their own.
All about the eyes
Bold brows and lashes: Stars like Zendaya showed off bold brows and defined lashes giving us serious envy. “This year, runway and award functions are seeing a certain raw feel to feminine beauty. Thick eyebrows to complement soft eyes or defined eyes are the best way to emphasise the eyes. Thick brows make a face look younger. The less you pluck and the more natural in size and shape you keep them, they frame your face better,” explains Aakriti Kochar, beauty and make-up expert, Oriflame India
Metallic make-up: Go for subtle gold shadow like Jennifer Lopez. “While keeping the metallic colour on the lid, you’ll want to blend it out with a matte neutral shade for the face to soften the make-up. This will keep the look cool and modern instead of a glittery disco ball,” advises Priya Kapur, make-up and hair expert.
Lips and face
Red, red night: Red lips were seen in matte and gloss on a number of actresses including Eva Green, Rooney Mara and Amber Heard. Priya Kapur says, “Red lips are a classic. Over the years we have seen the wear and usage of this striking colour due to its versatility. It suits almost all skin tones if the right shade is worn. Balance out the stark red lip with minimal eye make-up. Neutral shadows like a champagne gold work well, add on a mascara to complete the look. Always use a lip primer before applying the colour for an even application.”
Highlight your features: Take cue from Kate Bosworth and use strobing to create a luminous effect. Aakriti Kochar says strobing is definitely here to stay. “Apply a generous amount to your cheek bones, the bridge of your nose, below your brow bone, and at the corners of your eyes before blending in with your fingers or a sponge.”
Lustworthy locks
Faux bob and chignon: Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett sported an interesting do that looked like a faux bob cum chignon. Jennifer Lawrence too went for a low bun. Deepti Samtani, top stylist and trainer, Nalini of Nalini & Yasmin Salon says, “The faux bob works well on most hair types and is a radical change from the usual long hair. A chignon is a very feminine classic up do. Also, a low or side messy bun is easy to put together and is perfect for a cocktail party.”
Sleek ponies: “The sleek ponytail like sported by Eva Longoria is a superb quick fix for a bad hair day. Works well for any occasion be it a lunch date or a night out. No accessories required,” adds Deepti.
