When Women Fitness India asked Sift Samra about her journey into shooting, she admitted it was something she stumbled upon by chance. “I honestly never knew shooting was even a sport,” she shared. It wasn’t until she visited a shooting range that her interest was piqued. “I decided to try my luck with both pistol and rifle shooting, and to my surprise, I managed to hit an impressive shot near the 10-meter mark. That single moment intrigued me, and it grew into a passion that I couldn’t ignore. Since then, I’ve pursued it with all my zeal and determination to learn and improve.”
Of course, her journey wasn’t without challenges. Sift explained that the most critical aspect of shooting is focus and discipline. “The biggest challenge I’ve faced is learning to maintain focus and stay positive. There were times when it felt overwhelming, but I realized that having a positive outlook towards the sport makes all the difference. It’s about approaching each shot with a focused mindset and not letting doubts creep in.”

When discussing how she prepares for competitions, Sift emphasized the importance of both mental and physical training. “Shooting is as much a mental game as it is physical. On the physical side, I work closely with my trainer and follow a strict diet tailored to support my performance. On the mental side, I focus on staying happy and positive. For me, the key is remembering that it’s a sport—it’s meant to be enjoyed. I try not to let the pressure of competition overshadow my love for the game.”
As a woman excelling in a sport often seen as male-dominated, Sift’s journey has been inspiring. She acknowledged the challenges but also highlighted how women are proving themselves in the sport. “In our country, it’s still seen as a big deal for women to excel in shooting, but when you compare scores, women often perform better than men. It’s a testament to what we’re capable of. My advice to young girls is to believe in themselves. If something inspires you, go after it wholeheartedly, and don’t let societal perceptions hold you back.”
Looking ahead, Sift’s goals are clear. “My ultimate aim is to make India proud,” she said with determination. “I want to work hard and excel in this sport, not just for myself, but to inspire others and contribute to the growth of shooting in India. That’s what drives me every day.”
Through her words and her achievements, Sift Samra stands as a powerful role model for aspiring athletes, proving that with passion and perseverance, no goal is out of reach.
