Here’s Replacing the “Motivation” with “Discipline”

By Ekta Jagtiani

“What is your motivation behind working out regularly?”

“I have been flooded by this question on numerous instances. One can’t do justice to this question unless exemplified by one’s experiences and outlook in life.” Ekta Jagtiani is pursuing a competitive engineering field and still turning fitness into a way of life with her humble and unstoppable desire to learn!

When you exercise, you flex your muscles in ways that go beyond the physical perspective. Overcoming challenging obstacles which you initially thought you couldn’t, leads you to wonder what capabilities you possess in other aspects of your life. This is the paradigm shift. When you train, you learn a great deal about yourself: discipline, pushing your limits, and your talents.

Exercise Motivation: Why You Need It?

Working out generates a chemical reaction in your body that makes you feel better and happier from within. It is the kind of satisfaction that makes you feel you’ve checked everything off or charges you up to accomplish everything on your to-do list for the day. It is the type that makes you believe that nobody, even if they tried, could possibly spoil your day; the kind of contentment and joy that only a few things can ever bring to you.

Quote “To point out an instance, I clearly recall the enthusiasm I felt the day prior to hitting the gym. I mentally planned out exactly what I wanted to wear and which muscle I was looking forward to training. It gave me the impression that I had my life’s goals laid out before me.” Unquote

Do you know that feeling of being hassled and are at a loss of venting it out? It turns out that the best place to accomplish it is at the gym, working out. Working out aids you to understand who you are and what you could reshape not just physically but also emotionally.

Additionally, beyond that, it helps you maintain a positive outlook and keeps your attitude in check. It instills a feeling of discipline in you and teaches you that failure is just as, if not more, vital than success. It tutors you to be patient, composed, humble as well as to persist in your efforts until you succeed. Working out compels you to be more determined, thereby motivating you to be engaged and dedicated each day.

Self-Care at its Best!

Being selfish is not necessarily a negative trait in times when you prioritize yourself into a particular time slot. When you take care of yourself, you can handle/overcome the challenges that your day throws at you. If there is one place where you can be completely yourself without feeling compelled to pretend to be someone you are not (or ..without having the need to be pretentious), it is at the gym. It’s an excellent way to unwind and is honestly all the self-care you require sometimes. It enables you to reconnect with your true self and have some “me time” without being distracted by the outside world.

We improve by concentrating on habits and accomplishing tasks daily. You cannot always control the outcome, but you can control your consistency, persistence, and concentration on each workout completed.

Exercise should be a celebration of our health and the capabilities of our bodies, not a punishment for what we eat or work to achieve physical transformation. You possess the ability to alter your perspective. Hence it is for you to decide whether your mindset is one that empowers you or one that punishes you?

Balance is not something that is discovered; it is something that is created.

So, let discipline help you to not constantly rely on motivation. Show up for yourself!
