14th of April, every year marks Baisakhi,the harvest festival of Sikhs. On this day the winter crops also known as Rabi crops are harvested. It is a very significant festival for Sikhs all around the world. Baisakhi is celebrated on the first day of the month of ‘Baisakh’ which happens to be the first month of the Hindu calendar.
On this day people all around India celebrate this festival with much enthusiasm and dress up in different shades of yellow and orange. It’s not just the clothes and motifs but people also add a tinge of gold and yellow in some of their foods.

PEELEY CHAWAL RECIPE
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 1 handful mixed dry fruits
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoon clove
- water as required
- 2 dashes saffron
- 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
- 2 teaspoon green cardamom
- 2 tablespoon ghee
Direction
- To prepare this amazing sweet rice recipe, wash and soak rice in a large bowl in water for half an hour. Then, in a deep-bottomed pan, add the soaked rice, saffron and water. Bring it to a boil and cook till the rice is almost done.
- Meanwhile, take a small bowl with a little warm water and add the powdered sugar in it. Stir to mix well and to form a thin sugar syrup.
- Now, take a pan over medium flame and heat ghee in it. When the ghee is hot enough, add the fennel seeds, cloves, and green cardamom and saute for a few seconds.
- Then, add the boiled rice along with the dry fruits in the pan. Gently, mix them all well and then, pour the prepared sugar syrup in it. Stir the mixture once again gently and let the rice cook for 10 minutes with the lid closed.
- When the rice is done, transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with saffron strings.
