Popular Weight Loss Diet Trends 2020

Two weight loss diets that seem to have impressed Indians the most are,

  • The high-fat, low-carb; ketogenic or keto diet. If your goal is to lose 5-10 kg weight, you can opt for the keto diet, but is not advisable in the long run.
  • Intermittent fasting that does not restrict the food, it restricts the time at which you can eat. It is of two categories, 16:8 or the 5:2 weight loss diet, respectively. For the 16:8 diet, eating is restricted in 6-8 hours of the day, followed by 16 hours of fasting. For the 5:2 diet, people restrict themselves to one moderate-sized meal, 2 days in the week, and eat normally for the other 5 days. Intermittent fasting works very well for people who are already involved in a workout routine.

Watch Out

Besides diet there are key essentials that cannot be ignored.

  • Long working hours and sleep deprivation owing to online streaming, binge-watching shows, etc are social trends that are detrimental to fitness level.
  • Easy access to packaged food and food delivery services like Zomato & Swiggy is creating a dent in people’s health.
  • Carb-cycling diet, the blood type diet, and the vegan diet are the other popular weight loss diet trends, apart from intermittent fasting and keto diet.
  • Super-foods that became popular in recent times are chia seeds, green tea, turmeric, ghee, ragi, and quinoa
  • A shift towards healthier grains from staple rice and wheat has been observed. People replaced white rice with brown rice and quinoa, while wheat was substituted with jowar and ragi, and other millets.

Ultimately, all fasting diets aim to cause weight loss through caloric restriction.
