3 Indian Sportswomen Who Made Us Proud At The 30th World University Games

Indian sportswomen have created a niche for themselves and are breaking all the stereotypes with their current spectacular performances. The Summer Universiade or the World University Games is the second biggest multi-sport event on the planet after the Olympics which focuses on athletes at the university level.

1. Dutee Chand

Talking about Indian sportswomen, the first name that comes to our mind is Indian’s record breaking sprinter, Dutee Chand. She spearheaded the 135-member Indian contingent at the Naples event and went on to win the gold medal in women’s 100-metre sprint, becoming the first Indian to do so.

2. Elavenil Valarivan

She clinched silver, the first medal for India, at the 10m Air Rifle Women’s event of the Napoli 2019 World University Games. Valirivan, who is currently pursuing her B.A. in English Literature from Gujarat University, trains under former Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang. She was included in the specialised program organised by GFG in collaboration with Olympic Gold Quest.

3. Yashaswini Singh Deswal

She finished fourth at the summer games in Napoli with a total score of 197.7 in the women’s air pistol finals. Though she qualified second with 573, only behind Kim Minjung (582), Yashaswini later slipped to fourth as Kim leapfrogged her to the bronze medal in the end.
