Combat winter skin this season with these helpful makeup tips.
We love winter, but colder temperatures can lead to a whole host of beauty problems, such as dull, chapped or dehydrated skin. Here are a few tips from the experts for anyone looking to perk up their look for the festive season.
Celebrity beauty artist Lisa Eldridge suggests using a foundation one shade darker than usual to “warm up” the skin. In this tutorial with Alexa Chung, she suggests using Chanel’s “Vitalumiere” ($58) and thinning it out by applying a tiny bit over a well-moisturised base and buffing it into the skin using a brush.
To fake the kind of dewy, healthy glow that seems to come naturally in spring time, Eldridge uses a highlighter for a gentle shimmer — in this case, a Becca “Shimmering Skin Perfector” ($49) in “Rose Gold.” Another tip is to gently buff concealer in around the creases of the nostrils to counteract any redness that might be brought about by exposure to the elements.
Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, meanwhile, relies on her own “Magic Foundation” (£29.50, approximately $45) to pump moisture back into tired skin. The formula includes Laricyl to tighten pores, hyaluronic filling spheres that plump the skin with water and vitamin C to revive it.
Once you have your base looking flawless, then you can experiment with the rest of your look. Beauty blogger Shaaanxo suggests trying out a “frosted” eye for a glamorous wintery vibe. This look involves blending a white eyeshadow (she suggests one from the Lorac Pro Palette, $42) over the socket, blending a brown shade into the outer corners before using liquid black liner to create a crisp flick and dabbing the white hue at the inner corners and underneath the eye. This look can be offset with a soft pink blush for a wintery glow.
